Annie Wersching 24 S8 IGN Interview
by TheFixer on Jan.19, 2010, under Annie Wersching

Annie Wersching sat down with IGN’s Eric Goldman to discuss her role as Renee Walker and the characters dark new direction in the new season of 24, here are some highlights:
Q: This show is taking your character in a lot of different directions.
Wersching: It’s really fun. Last year, I couldn’t believe how much stuff I got to do. From where I started in episode 1 to episode 24, I did so much stuff – even just the physical aspect, I was so excited. And then this year came along, and I was like, “I can’t believe there’s even more stuff!” I just love the dark side. It’s really fun to play. And it’s really fun to have Jack there, like, “Um, wait… hold on a second! Are you okay?” It’s just so different.
Q: That final scene of episode 4 this season certainly is a jaw-dropper.
Werching: That was the first scene that we shot. That whole night was going in and finding the guy, but that was the first thing I came back and did this year. I was like, “Hell yeah!”
Q: Is it an interesting challenge to play someone who’s gone down such a dark path?
Wersching: Yeah. You have to make sure it’s coming from someone who would still be the same person, but that’s why it really helped last year that they gave her such a great arc. Where she ended Day 7 last year was in such a conflicted place about that that I think it’s really believable that she could actually go there.
Q: What is going through her head at the end of that last episode?
Wersching: I think the only thing going through her mind at that point is she needs to get that f**king tracker off of his wrist and this is how she’s got to do it. She’s not at risk to lose her job. The only thing she has there is to try and help the situation. She’s got nothing to lose. Why not just chop his thumb off?
Q: Is she hardcore or is she loco?
Wersching: I think she’s hardcore. I don’t think she’s loco. And I think if you didn’t see that it affected her, maybe… But you see a little bit in episode 5. It’s not like she’s just doing it. It may look like she’s completely closed off and badass, but that’s what I love about her in general, is she can be so badass and so tough, but there’s still so much going on inside. And you still know that it’s still deeply affecting her, even if she’s trying to pretend like it’s not.
